Modern Russia: A Very Short Introduction provides an overview of the major figures, events, dilemmas, and ideas that have shaped modern Russian history from the late nineteenth century to the present. Blending political and social history, this book centers the life stories and diverse experiences of the people – both ordinary and extraordinary – who made modern Russia. It argues that a core series of urgent questions have defined modern Russia’s history, and it showcases how the peoples of Russia have wrestled with these questions across generations, ideologies, and regimes.
The Multiethnic Soviet Union and its Demise was published with Bloomsbury’s Russian Shorts Book Series in fall 2022.
